Schools, Groups & Festivals

During the past few years we have worked with a number of schools within Carmarthenshire and beyond.

We can provide hands-on cookery classes for whole classes and smaller groups, although larger groups are more suited to an interactive demonstration.

Small groups of school children are welcome to visit me here at Allt y Gôg Farm.  During visits to your location, I can provide everything needed including induction hobs / griddles, aprons, pots, pans, all other equipment needed and ingredients of course.  All I require are tables, water and electricity.

St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen’s new shopping centre, has provided an opportunity for local school children to participate in their ’Gardening Week’ over the past few years.

The Pumpkin Patch has co-ordinated the gardening activities and assisted local schools with their Bee-keeper’s, Wildlife, and Kitchen Gardens.  These not only enthralled the public throughout the summer months, but also won St Catherine’s Walk 1st Prize in the Pride of Place competition in Carmarthen in Bloom 2010 and 2011.

Groups and Organisations

As groups and organisations got to hear about The Pumpkin Patch, we started working for Communities First, Carmarthenshire County Council and Carmarthenshire Youth and Children’s Association (CYCA) offering cookery workshops within schools and at community events.  We now work regularly with them and other organisations teaching both adults and children about healthy eating and how to eat well on a budget.

It’s been exciting to work with a number of Urdd groups (the Welsh youth organisation) during their after school activities. Some groups visit me here at my home or I travel to them.  We’ve had some fun bonfire parties and barbecues as well as the more usual cookery parties!

The Pumpkin Patch Cookery Workshops offer people the chance to cook in a safe, friendly and homely environment.  Those who attend not only benefit from learning new cookery skills but also grow in confidence and make new friends as they do so.  As a result, several local groups such as MENCAP,  Women’s Aid and International groups in have benefited from offering Pumpkin Patch workshops.

Food Festivals and Events

The Pumpkin Patch is now an experienced traveller and frequently attends food festivals and community events around the country, offering children’s activities and workshops and demonstrations.  Healthy eating is always high on our agenda, but our aim is to have fun in the kitchen while passing on important skills in a safe and happy environment.  Although we can’t take the veg patches with us, we always talk about the food we cook and about where it comes from and how it’s good for us, which is an integral part of The Pumpkin Patch Workshops.

We have regularly provided children’s cookery workshops at the West Wales Food Festival at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, Taste of Towy Food Festival, Llandeilo, Cardigan Food and River Festival as well as a number of community events across the county and beyond. Other Food Festivals attended include Llandysul,  Lampeter,  Aberystwyth,  Newport and Carmarthen River Festival.
